(Price), based in Monticello, Arkansas, is one of the largest wood processing companies in the U.S. The original Price Company ("J. P. Price Lumber Company") was established by John Porter Price in 1965 as a lumber and logging and sawmilling operation. Between 1965 and 1981, J. P. Price Lumber Company focused on its lumber and mill businesses and later added wood chipping capability. In 1981, Price developed and built a rotating drum tree debarker (the Price "Debarker") that eventually changed the focus of Price from lumber and milling to equipment fabrication and contract wood chipping. In an attempt to realize the full financial potential of Price’s wood chip equipment manufacturing expertise, John Porter Price conceived the idea of a contract chipping mill in the early 1980’s. Mr. Price’s concept involved constructing and operating a Price designed chipping mill for the benefit of a host pulp and paper producer. He believed his new idea would be accepted by the paper companies because it is very similar to contract logging services, a concept familiar to the pulp and paper industry. The idea of outsourcing such a vital part of a paper mill’s process was a slow difficult concept for the first mill. After the success of the first mill, the concept was accepted and grew rapidly. Price’s total commitment to service “whatever you need, whenever you need it” continues to work in any industry deployed. Price’s network in the forest products, land management and logistics industry is based on successful business relationships with the most of larger companies. This position allows Price to be a one stop provider for your fiber needs.
